Brazilian Serie A – 19/07/12: Coritiba vs Palmeiras

19 Jul

Coritiba vs Palmeiras

-Replay of the Copa do Brazil final (Palmeiras won after a 2-0 win and 1-1 draw in Coritiba)

-The last two games (cup final) between these two went under 2.5 goals

-Coritiba were unlucky not to win the return leg of the Copa do Brazil final at their manor (an own goal forced via an Assuncao free kick levelled matters)

-Palmeiras main goal scoring threat is via the set pieces of Assuncao and he will be absent tonight .

-As well as Assuncao, key attacking midfielder Valvida and several other players will not line up for Palmeiras.

-Palmeiras have a guaranteed place in next season’s Copa Libertadores and winning this game isn’t of importance to them (they won’t win the league and know it).

Conclusion: The game will probably go under 2.5 goals again, but Coritiba have home advantage and Palmeiras are missing several key players. Much like in England when Chelsea beat Liverpool in the cup final but lost the league game that was of no importance to them days later, I expect the same to occur here.

Recommendation: Coritiba (5/6)

Result: Coritiba shocking went a goal down early on and, despite 25 shots on goal, could only draw 1-1.

Other bets tweeted: Over 2.5 at 5/6 in Flu – Bahia (won). Stake covered with a 2-0 correct score at 11/2. In-play bet (placed at half time) of FLU to win and one more goal in each of Coritiba – Palmeiras and Atletico GO vs Figueirense (won at 1.55/1)
