Athletic Bilbao v Rayo Vallecano

As expected, Athletic scored but lost away (3-1) to Rayo Vallecano last weekend. Bielsa’s boys had taken the lead, but after Laporte was sent off it was always going to end in a win for Levante- who are strong at home. Aduriz, with his eleventh goal in seventeen games, was the Basque’s scorer.

Rayo, with some swashbuckling football, put Getafe to the sword on Monday night – winning 3-1. Lass, who was given far too much space by the Azulones defence, opened the scoring with a mazy run and powerful finish into the net, before Pitti added a brace.

In conclusion, I’d like to bet on both teams to score, which was a winner in both meetings between these two last season, but at 1.67 it’s too short for me – as is over 2.5 goals.

Instead, with Athletic in bad form and Rayo having won three games in a row and highly impressive on Monday night, I’m going to see if they can match or better last year’s draw here – after all, Athletic are a lesser team now than they were in 2011/12.

Worth a punt: Rayo + 0.5 at 1.95 with Bet 365
