Levante v Malaga – 13/01/15

Levante v Malaga

In the first leg preview I wrote that Levante weren’t interested in the cup, would field a very weak team and likely lose, and that they did, duly going down 2-0 to 4/7 shots Malaga. The same applies in the return leg, but the problem is that Malaga don’t need to win with a two-goal lead.

I don’t like betting on teams who don’t need to win and, although seriously tempted this time, will stick to my rule. However, for those planning a bet, the best wager is Malaga 0 Asian line (draw no bet) as the Anchovies seem unlikely to lose.

Recommendation: Malaga Asian line 0 @ 1.7 with SBO

Rayo (11th) v Cordoba (18th)

Rayo won 2-1 at Getafe last weekend – a result that gave them their first win since the end of November. Cordoba, on the other hand, defeated Granada 2-0 last time out – their second win in four games and only two league wins this season.

Notably, these two clubs have a ‘friendly’ relationship that tends to result in the team who needs the points the most getting them. The Rayo coach, Paco Jemez, used to play for Cordoba too, so the bond is strong.

As such, while you argue it’s not the best logic to form an opinion off, don’t be shocked if Ray fail to win against 18th placed Cordoba tonight. They should, and three years have passed since Rayo last played Cordoba, but previous results saw high-scoring games full of comebacks.

As simple as it sounds, Rayo are just Rayo – half the squad changes every season, but they stick with the same coach and playing style, get thrashed a good few times, but pull off some upsets and retain their Primera Liga status. Baptistao misses out tonight as he’s not full fit, but Rayo still have Manucho and Bueno – both capable scorers.

Cordoba have improved under coach Djukic recently and, while on-loan Algerian Nabil Ghilas – scorer of 5 goals in 15 games – is reportedly injured (we know how unreliable Marca are, however!), new Portuguese singing Tiago Manuel Dias is expected to start.

All in all, Rayo are the 18th best (or third worst) home team in the league, while Cordoba are 16th on the road. I’d say that Cordoba are in better form recently and Djukic’s boys + 1 AH looks like a fair play as such.

Worth a small punt: Cordoba + 1 AH @ 7/9 with Bet Victor
