About JC

Hi, my name is Jonathan Cordingley. I’m English and enjoy domestic football, but from a young age have always been more interested in world football, particularly Spanish La Liga. A lover of boxing and F1, like many other people in the UK during the 1990’s, I also watched Italian Serie A and American NFL on C4 and have maintained an interest in both to this day.

After leaving university in 2001, I created, wrote, produced and starred in the Sheffield-based community radio show ‘Talking Balls!”. While working on this radio show, I interviewed a plethora of local athletes, along with some – such as ex-footballer John Barnes – nationally famous sportspeople.

As press (of some description!), I attended a plethora of sporting events, mostly within Yorkshire, and regularly interviewed the managers of local football clubs Sheffield Wednesday and United until I moved to Spain to work in Gibraltar with William Hill in 2009. In order to gain writing experience, unpaid, I also wrote La Liga betting articles, and was featured on a couple of podcasts, for ForzaFutbol.

Eventually progressing from my customer services role to be a Content Editor at William Hill Online, I wrote La Liga betting previews for the company, which proved to be very successful and were often featured on third party websites such as goal.com.

Having also featured on William Hill’s in-play radio, I opened a Twitter account, where I shared my articles, and my reputation as being the go-to guy for Spanish football grew and grew, which led to writing offers.

With an ambition of being paid for my opinion, I left William Hill to write a weekly betting column for Grosvenor Casinos, along with several other freelance projects. However, while I fulfilled an ambition, I was often waiting several months for invoices to be paid and eventually concluded that it would be better to have a regular job with a medical plan.

So, I accepted a role in a new department at BetVictor, which was called Real-Time Marketing and set to feature around creating real-time betting offers and posting social media content. I learned a lot in this role and developed several new skills, but the position was made redundant after eighteen months and it was time for a new adventure.

That new adventure came in the form of being Royal Panda’s Social Media Manager, a job that gave me a lot of creativity, including working with sponsored football club QPR, and the ability to work from home. Twenty-two months and a takeover later, however, that job ended too.

All in all, having even managed to be in charge of the sportsbook for a couple of days at Royal Panda while my boss was away, I’ve completed a long cycle of going from taking bets on the phone for William Hill to being in temporary charge of sports at Royal Panda, so If I don’t work for a similar company again, I can be pretty content with my body of work.

I’d love to live and work in Las Vegas in a sports betting role, and never say never, but since the online betting industry has shifted heavily towards e-gaming in Europe and I’m an old school sportsman with no interest in gaming or casino, I don’t expect to work for another European betting company.

I hope that you’ll support me as I transition into this phase of my life and thank you for reading this introduction. I can be contacted via jonathan.cordingley@hotmail.com or through my regualr Twitter account, @JCLaLiga

Quick question: Are the odds you post always from William Hill?

Not now, as I just use the best market price available at the time.
